Ok so I stole this idea from mapcore, basically this is for people to chuck in random pictures of textures they've made, making or want some crit on without having to start 101 WIP threads (Though please feel free to make WIP threads anyway).
I'll start with this Stucco texture, I downloaded the base texture and added some grunge and cracks, all C&C welcomed

Good idea
I like the texture, to make it more interresting you could try to add some brown
and yellow aerias on it. Just airbrush a little with a soft brush, noting detailed.
And set the layer to overlay or soft light then adjust the opacity you just want a hint of color to add to the strong blue/green feel, maybe gives it some more life.
You could also fiddle a bit with the color on the whole image to loose a bit of
blueness... donno.
Nice work.
EDIT:
Just tested a few things on it.
I used selective color and removed some blue and added a bit of warmer color,
red and yellow.
Added a layer of faint white in the middle and some red on the top part
and green on the bottom.
Could fiddle with it more adding a smoother concrete layer over to even out
some of the roughness.

what spine said here will definatly make that texture just a little better.. but the keyword here is subtle. Also, You should probably un-sharpen it a little |

I had a go to.
Found this realy white stone photo at CGTextures and a border thingy.
Working with the wall I realized that the stone had almost no structure left,
it was so white, probably strong sun light on the wall when the shot was taken.
Should have found something else, but hey..

Nice edit on the texture I did Spine, looks nicer now
Also I like the texture above, I'm going to find that same texture and use it in my map if I get it looking right lol

Ok heres what I think so far is my best work yet. i've still got some stuff to do to the wood like adding in some nails or rivets but I'm liking how it's turned out so far

Nice work Sly, you'r getting better everytime.
You got the classic floating problem going on there, and it's
something I struggle with myself from time to time.
Whenever I stick another type of material on top of something
and add shadow it doesent seem to belong there, like its floating...
To make the wood a bit more a part of the wall, the only thing thats
worked for me was to first make the wood edges uneven, I use the lasso tool
and work around all the wood edges removing all straight lines.
Then I use a copy of the background cement and lay on top of the wood,
selecting the empty spaces inbetween the wood and delete that from the top layer
of cement so the wood is now hidden underneath.
I then start cutting away uneven parts from the top cement layer at the middle
of all the wood bits to make it look like the wood is partialy covered by cement.
It gives a more "real" look and you get rid of most of the floating feel.
It is time consuming but gives you a nice reward in the end.
Sry clumsy explanation.
I should find an example, let me have a look...
EDIT:
I only found this atm, it's from the tudor texture pack.
On this texture I have not used a top layer of cement as I talked about earlier,
but instead cut away along the edges of the wood to make it feel like its a part
of and level with the cement.
Anyways long explanation for a simple thing...

I think I understand what you mean, basically I need to 'break up' the straight lines by 'nipping' out little bits of the wood and then adding in the background plaster to those bits....
Will give it a try in the next few days, it's my Bday today so I'm out drinking tonight

Tried another variation of the wood, used the dodge and burn tool's to make the lighter areas and the shadows, I'm not 100% happy with it but I'm learn more each night

The first one of these are quite good, you could let the wood shine through a little.
The second was a step back in time, reminds me of duke nukem lol sorry...

Hi fellas, I've been rather busy lately and this is the first texture i've attempted in just about a month
Anyway, I'm trying to make an ornate 'stone/brick' wall with stains etc on it. The 'stones/bricks' are hand drawn and laid overtop of a concrete texture I found on CGtextures. I added in three layers of stains so far and are atm 'roughing' up the 'stone/brick' lines.
anyway some crit is always welcomed

You got a good start here, but I think you can improve it a lot. First off I think the lines feels a bit unnatural. There are hardly any materials that can have such straight sharp lines, except maybe carbon or graphire. I suggest you spend some time making the edges a bit more uneven, and make them blend better with the concrete. The way I would do this is by masking out bits of the lines with a grungy brush, if not drawn unevenly at start using a wacom tablet. Then I would add a new layer on top of it set to Overlay and low opacity and paint some dirt and shadows along the lines with a paintbrush with some dark brown color to make them blend better.
I noticed one more thing you could improve. If you put your texture next to itself a couple of times you will see that the large white area in the middle will repeat itself and make the texture look badly tiled. You could either give it a go with the healing brush or dodge and burn it, or you could give it a little slap with the highpass filter (a good tutorial can be read here if you haven't used it before).
Hope it was of some help
EDIT:
I had a little go to see how you could improve it, and this is what I came up with:

The things i did with this was:
- "Healed" the lines using a concrete ref photo as source.
- Did a little highpass
- Painted in some dark brown color in the lines
- Added a little contrast and colour tone
- Added some sharpening
- Painted over some noisy parts with a regular brush
Cheers!

I like your work on this Sly, especially the running stains, very good.
Pomperi got some realy good tips there so try to pick up on some of that.
All I can add is that from what I have seen those kind of walls usually have
a little bigger gap inbetween the lines.
See if you can find some ref photos of a wall like that to see what I mean.
Pomperi's edit looks great, but the line is so thin that it looks more like a block
based concrete wall then what I think you are aming for,
it might not matter in the end though.

Hehe, don't be picky now Here are your gaps:

It's funny how your workflow change during the years. When I started texturing I learned all filters and effects first and used these as much as I could. Nowadays I think the paintbrush is the best tool, next to the blending modes and healing brush of course. The changes above is the result of some brushing with low flow and opacity. |

Thanks for the help fellas |
