I plan on doing a lot more with my Wacom in the future so thought I'd start my own thread. Here's a painting I did over 2 days. Actual size is A3 @ 150dpi.
The design is based off a mural I painted on my bedroom wall as a teenager.

Hehe now thats freaky!
Nice work though, I can see you have been painting for quite some time, this is nothing you learn over 2 days.
Art school?
I've gone to art school myself with major on painting using oil for most
but also loved using acrylics.
Never have time anymore but I find I am constantly imaginary
painting in my head...
Sounds strange I guess but I think of images and compositions.
Nice one. let's see some more..

lol, I'm not very happy with the background. I wanted to paint an arid land with a volcanoe erupting in the background but that's beyond my current skills. I need to work on my landscape painting.
The concept for this painting was an exercise a teacher gave me in primary school. We had to draw a picture mixing up human body parts. I became obsessed with the concept and have done quite a few of them over the years.
I droped out of a fine art degree around a decade ago, I couldn't stand all the menial art history and subjects irrelevant to my interests.
I went to life drawing in a local pub for a while too. It was a lot of fun and a great way of developing a broad range of artistic skills. I might start that up again this year.
Like Pomperi, I'd like to see some of your painting spine . |

I didn't mind the landscape in your painting at all,
it's art you can do what you like..
Yeah that's what's killing the inspiration, all the history and subjects that are not really in your interest to learn.
I do understand that you need history lessons to put your work in some sort of context but christ it's a lot of crap to.
(I guess I could show some paintings but I am having a few
classic artistic 'issues' with my stuff so I donno.
That's some of the reason I have not done anything the last 6 years,
except for not having any time...)

That's understandable. Occasionally internet criticism gets under my thick skin. |

Hey that awesome! I like it a lot.
The attention to detail is great.
Used to love pen drawings, making a doodle into an
elaborate art pice is great fun.

I've recently had a resurged intrest in 2d illustration and animation. I've been reading John K's blog (creator of Ren and Stimpy) and ordered a few books by Preston Blair, a genius from the golden Disney era of animation.
Here's a character i designed using some of Preston's principles I found on the net. I made a t-shirt design from it and submitted it to threadless, hence the halftone shading (can only use a max of 8 colours)

I like it
I don't mind the half-tone shading makes it look funky old school.
Not looking so good on the teeth maybe.
Are you sure you have to use half-tone shading for the print?

nah, don't have to use halftone but you are limited to 8 colours so it's an easy way to create shading without adding to the pallete. next design i don't plan to use it again. |
