Just thought I would start this to prevent the model board cluttering up with small threads in the future.
ok so hear goes:
Render

Texture

Hopefully this increases the posting of models a bit =) |

Good idea Corey.
Ahh another cube to love!
Nice work, I like the colors.
I think that some parts on the texture look a bit to obviously photo sourced,
but looking at the 3d image it's working nicely anyways so...

Thanks, I'm not sure what game to use it for. I just made it for practice purposes. But if you wan't to use yourself I will have to polish it up a bit.
Yeah I agree that it looks really photo sourced. I often have that problem. I start of with hand painting but eventually I end up using alot of photo textures anyway. I guess I just miss the skill and patience you and Pomperi have. |

Hey Corey it would be great if you want to share it with people.
I could make a props download section and host it.
If it is HL2 source ready that is.

Would love to share it. I might make a few more boxes to make it more worth it to download. What does it need to be imported into valve's engine? |

Ooh, I am not familiar with making models work with HLsource, I will have a look
around, think there is a wiki document about that somewhere.
(Also someone like Sam would know.)

Ok try Jed's site http://www.wunderboy.org/ he has some exporters for 3d progs to source.
Also check out the valve wiki document and do a search on models or exporting,
might want to mention what kind of 3d prog you are using to.
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Main_Page
Hope this can help you to start pumping out usefull props for source...

Heh thanks I'll have a look at it. But I don't have source (installed) so I rather not use a 3d to source exporter. I'm using 3ds max. Would be ideal if source could take .ASE files and 24 bit targa's.
anyway...
Here's another crate/box/cube:

Nice to see that you're improving your skills! Second one has some nice details, but I think the first one has some better variation in colors. You don't need much to make a big difference, just make sure you don't use gray for all values. Try having light yellow for highlights and maybe dark orange/green/blue for your darker parts ofr instance. Just a small hint is enough to do the job. Another thing you could do is to define your edges using a smaller brush to bring out the shapes in you model. |

Nice!
I like your imagination when it comes to boxes, your not thinking square... doh
Good design, and it could look even better if you use some of Pomperi's tips.
(just realized that you've made the edges dark on both boxes, usually edges are lighter because the light is reflecting off it and you would imagine that a metal box would be scraped there aswell, strangly it looks ok like that.)

Thanks for the comments! yeah I now that you say so I realize it's really gray. I'll make sure to try the tips you gave.
thanks, I'm practicing with boxes because they force you to be a little more creative. And they are easy to unwrap. I darkned the edges when I was making sure the texture tiled. I'm not sure why I did so. I think I'll change it.
Thanks again for the feedback |

Nice work so far I'm liking the feel, maybe try something abit different with it and go for a cartoony feel aswell? You could do it in lime green or light blue and have some fun with it

Thanks! The model is made by me, yes =) Took me about a week just for the model, not to speak about the texture, but practise makes perfect.
A little stretching isn't that bad |

Yeah very nice indeed Pomperi, I am missing some harder blackish color
it's very bland. Maybe on the inside where it hasn't had to much wear, donno.
But this depends on the style you want I guess.
(I'm not gonna make a fuzz about it, but next time, you could have a small image linked to a big one.)
